England celebrate their win over India on Sunday
England bounced back from defeat with victory over India

Captain Paul Collingwood insists that England's victory over India has given his team the perfect platform to face the West Indies at The Oval on Monday.

England defended 153-7 to win by three runs in a pulsating match at Lord's that resulted in the holders being eliminated from the competition.

"It was a major effort all-round and now we have to replicate this against the West Indies," said Collingwood.

"We have to be brave though, and try to keep the same energy and drive."

England had been badly beaten by South Africa last Thursday - and the response of his team was a particular source of pride for the skipper.

"We went out against India and proved a lot of people wrong, and the players put in that little bit extra," he added.

Collingwood's team now face a winner-takes-all match against the West Indies on Monday - England's second game in two days.

We know we have a massive job ahead of us

"Monday is a huge game - we've been playing the West Indies for what seems like the last half a year," said Collingwood.

"Both sides know each other very well, they have some danger men in that side but we'll enjoy this victory and know we have a massive job ahead of us.

"Twenty20 doesn't take too much out of the body but the lads have put a lot of effort in tonight. It's really about getting the minds focused for what's in hand."

Collingwood paid tribute to his team-mates following the impressive win against the big-hitters of India - and proving a point to the passionate India supporters who out-numbered the England supporters inside Lord's.

"It's a bit strange, to be honest, on your home ground," said the England captain. "But it gave everyone the motivation to go out and put a party piece on.

"It was a fantastic performance - the way the bowlers came out and put them under a lot of pressure."

Team-mate Graeme Swann was also delighted after overcoming India, and agreed that facing the West Indies again will prove to be a massive challenge.

"It's a real confidence boost to beat India," said the England spinner.

"You are always concerned when they start off with a six, as they have some top batsmen. You start to think 'here we go again', but this is sweet revenge for us.

"What a fantastic incentive for us now going into the game against the West Indies."

Swann also welcomed fast-bowler Ryan Sidebottom's return to the side.

Sidebottom took 2-31 and held his nerve in the final over with India requiring 19 runs for victory.

"It was really pleasing for us to take a lot of key wickets," added Swann.

"I was delighted to see Ryan Sidebottom back today - he showed us what he can do with some remarkable, powerful bowling, and the attributes that he brings to the team."

West Indies were last in action against South Africa on Saturday, falling 20 runs short of the 184 required for victory.

The West Indies have played two Test series against England this year, two one-day international series and two T20 matches.

Gayle's team lost heavily in all forms of the game in their recent meetings in England.

"It would be nice to get the last say for the summer against England by beating them," said Gayle.

"This is the important one, they have been getting the better of us and it's a must-win. We have everything to play for and will give it our best.

"We are confident we can beat them and we have done it before. There's no two ways about it, we will have to step up, it's a crucial game."
